About Us

Welcome to ENGAGE,

We are a group of students at various Capistrano Unified School District High Schools and our mission is to provide a centralized resource for students to access volunteer, work, internship, and youth board opportunities to explore and develop their passions while also giving back to the community.

We founded ENGAGE in March of 2021 at Dana Hills High School at a point in time when student volunteer experiences declined due to the pandemic. We sought to aid high school students engage these opportunities once they became available again. Furthermore, we believed that students should participate in volunteer experiences, not simply to check a box for school requirements, but to develop their skills in an area relevant to their interests. Not only will this benefit the students in their journey toward college or a future career, but this will bind our community closer together.

ENGAGE is now a Capistrano Unified District-wide organization that has hosted four ENGAGE Fairs, partnered with local city youth boards, been recognized by US Congressmen and California Assembly Members, and featured multiple times in CUSD Insider and the Dana Point Times among other local newspapers.

Founder

Sophie Andersen

Sophie is a recent Dana Hills High School alumna and an incoming Biomedical Engineering student at Georgia Tech. She is also a National Youth Science Camp delegate, Rotary International Youth Advisory Council member, and Coca-Cola Scholar Semifinalist. Growing ENGAGE from an idea one night into a sustainable organization that connects students with volunteer, work, internship, and leadership opportunities related to their passions has been one of the best experiences of her life. She could not be more excited to place this organization in the hands of its Co-Presidents, Apoorvi and Anusha.

Apoorvi is an incoming junior at Tesoro High School. She is also the Assistant Governor of Interact District 5320, the President and Founder of the Interact Club at Tesoro High School, and a volunteer at Mission Hospital. Her role on ENGAGE is to recruit new members to the ENGAGE team and connect with community organizations who may attend the ENGAGE Fair.

Anusha Misra

Anusha is an incoming junior at Dana Hills High School. She is also the President of the Inter-Club Council, President of CSF, and the Co-President of the Women in STEM Club at Dana Hills. Her role is to coordinate the logistics and location of the ENGAGE Fair and to connect with potential partner community organizations.
